Every piece of full-grain vegetable-tanned leather from Badalassi Carlo is designed to change with you. With time and use, the leather darkens, develops a lustrous surface, and takes on a character entirely its own. The way you carry it, where you take it, and how often it's in your hands all shape how it ages. No two pieces will age the same way.
The same is true of the solid metal hardware. Whether brass, copper, or silver, each metal shifts in tone and depth over time, developing a finish that reflects years of honest use. Some prefer to let it age freely. Others prefer to maintain the original finish — either approach, the piece only improves with time.

Leather
Consistent handling is usually enough to keep vegetable-tanned leather naturally conditioned. If you'd like to treat your piece, a small amount of natural leather balm — we recommend Smith's Leather Balm — applied sparingly with a soft cloth will nourish the hide without altering its natural aging process. Less is more. Avoid harsh chemicals, prolonged water exposure, and storing in direct sunlight.
Metal
For hardware, a soft dry cloth is all that's needed to remove surface oils. If you prefer to restore the original finish, a small amount of appropriate metal polish applied carefully around the leather will do the job.
Towel
Machine wash cold with like colors. Tumble dry low or hang to air dry. Avoid bleach or fabric softener, which can break down the terry weave over time. The more it's washed, the softer it gets.
Hats
Spot clean with a damp cloth and mild soap as needed. Avoid machine washing, which can affect the structure of the crown. Air dry naturally away from direct heat and the hat will hold its shape for years of wear.

We make a limited number of custom pieces each season. If you have something specific in mind — a colorway not currently offered, a monogram, a gift for an event or tournament, or a bulk order for your club or company — we'd like to hear about it.
Custom work starts with a conversation. Reach out through the contact page with details about what you're looking for and we'll let you know what's possible, timeline, and pricing.
A few things worth knowing:
Custom orders require a deposit at the time of confirmation. Lead times vary depending on complexity and current workload — we'll be upfront about both before you commit. Because each piece is made to order, custom orders are final sale.
We don't rush custom work. If you have a hard deadline, let us know early and we'll tell you honestly whether we can meet it.

We stand behind everything we make. If a piece fails due to a defect in materials or construction, we'll repair or replace it — no questions asked.
These goods are built to last a lifetime. We mean that, and we're willing to back it up.
Normal wear, patina, and the marks that come from years of honest use aren't covered — those are features, not flaws. But if something isn't right with how it was made, it's on us.

We want you to love what you receive. If something isn't right, we'll make it right.
Unused items in their original condition may be returned within 30 days of delivery for a full refund or exchange. To start a return, reach out through the contact page with your order details and we'll take care of the rest.
A few things to keep in mind:
Because each piece is handcrafted to order, items that show signs of use, wear, or handling cannot be returned. Leather that has begun to develop a patina, hardware that has been worn, or items that have been carried or used in any way are considered final sale — not because we won't stand behind them, but because that patina is the product working exactly as intended.
Custom orders, monogrammed pieces, and sale items are final sale.
If your piece arrives with a defect in materials or construction, that's a different conversation entirely — see our guarantee above. We'll repair or replace it, no questions asked.
